Welcome to our continuing celebration of the Galaxy Far Far Away. The Force of July is still in effect, and today we are following some newcomers into the series. Wim, Neel, KB, SM-33, Fern, Gunter, Jod, and Brutus have entered the fray in the Star Wars version of the Goonies. Which one do you think will end up on top, and how well did these kids do while they were lost in space?
8th Place, Wim: 1 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 8 ep.
In last place is Wim. Wim is the definition of a dreamer and is the reason all the kids got lost in space in the first place. That brings us to our first fault for Wim. He was specifically told not to touch anything, and yet he did, leaving kids stranded in space with no way home. If it were not for SM-33, they would have starved and died up there. Wim did save KB’s life in the end. He created a core on the beach with her instructions and successfully prevented her from malfunctioning. It was a genuinely tense moment.
I was worried that the boy who dreamed of being a Jedi would show an aptitude for the force. I was certain that he would find a lightsaber or pick up something with the force, but the show refrained. I appreciate that, as the group just being kids in space was enough to engage me without throwing more lore at me.
7th Place, Neel: 1 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 8 ep.
Neel was my favorite among the kids, but in terms of actions and impact on the story, he did not accomplish much. There are some wonderful character-growth moments, and that adorable animatronic head is to die for, but he achieved only one feat: saving Wim. At least he didn’t do anything wrong, or he’d be in the negatives. I wish there were more to say about Neel other than he is cute and I want a pair of those overalls, but unfortunately, there isn’t.
6th Place, Gunter: 2 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 7 ep.
“Did I do that?” I had to get a Urkel reference in somewhere! Gunter is just a space pirate. Yeah, should he have been tracked? Probably not, but the actor did play Urkle, so I couldn’t resist. Maybe he could score more in the future, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for Gunter to get a series anytime soon. But hey, he did score more than two of the main characters, so that’s something, right?
5th Place, Fern: 5 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 8 ep.
Fern is a bit hard to handle at times, but she embodies how a kid would act in the circumstances. They establish her character in the beginning, and we eventually see a softer side to her. She didn’t have to pull Neel up that ladder by a rope, but she did! I can’t think of another child who could physically climb and pull a blue elephant up behind them. Talk about core strength! She also saved the group on multiple occasions. One from a giant stop motion crab, and another by removing the Hull of the Cinder and freeing them from the incinerator. She was the captain they needed and deserved!
4th Place, SM-33: 6 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 8 ep.
I don’t know why, but I am always drawn to the droids of this universe. SM-33 is a unique take, and I would love to know if there is just a store out there where you can buy anydroid for your needs. Star Wars never shows where these droids come from. I laugh thinking about seeing different options for your droid and a group of people picking the pirate dialogue option! I mean, come on, the jokes would be countless. I want a droid sitcom this instant!
With my delusional ramblings out of the way, SM-33 is a very useful companion for the team. He is a pretty good fighter and even saves the kids. I never thought about it much, but he does look like a smaller version of the K2-SO droid from Andor. I wonder if this was a prototype or a cheaper model?
3rd Place, KB: 7 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 8 ep.
You might have come into this feed thinking that Fern or Wim would be the best kid on the team, but KB blew them all out of the water. Her technological know-how put her miles ahead in terms of competence. She was the most useful, using her skills not only to save people but also to capture a wanted pirate, Brutus! Not bad for a kid; she could work on her landing skills, but hey, she survived, so it was a good landing, right?
2nd Place, Brutus: 7 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 6 ep.
Brutus is an awesome character design. I wish there were a pirate show where Brutus, Hondo, and all the other fun pirates got together to race towards a treasure or something. Now that would be a fun show! Disney, are you listening? My line is always open. Call me.
When it comes to scoring, this is the rare occasion where the two villains of the series scored way higher than the heroes. I actually can not think of another example of this happening. Brutus is a straight-up pirate and earned his score by stealing and taking what he thought was his. Not much more to say. Cool design and does what it says on the tin.
1st Place, Jod Na Nawood: 52 FN’F Score (2024-2025) 8 ep.
Woooah! Look at that score. I know I was not expecting that, so there is no way you predicted this! If you did, let me know in the comments because I have no idea how you could. The main takeaway from Jod’s feats is that they consider Attin a planet. It is not a city, it is a planet. So when they refer to At Attin and taking control of At Attin, and everyone confirms that he has disabled or shut down At Attin, they are talking about a planet! So, in two moves, Jod shut down power to an entire planet and, in another scene, captured and controlled it. That is 16 points each, which ballooned his entire score by 32!
Yeah, I did math for you, but come on. The dude turned out to be a monster at the game of Feats N’ Faults. This force-wielder-turned-pirate has some impressive feats, but his entire plan failed because he didn’t have the heart to kill a couple of kids. If he had chopped them and their parents down as soon as they got to the vault, he would have won easily. Instead, he lost and then just smiled. Do I know if he will be back? I dunno he is a high-profile actor with a small part in this seemingly standalone story. I do not expect it anytime soon, but that score is still impressive. I can’t get over it.
Feats N’ Faults Review:
Skeleton Crew: 6/10
The more separation I have from this show, the more forgettable it gets. I enjoyed it as it aired, and I appreciate that it seems to be a standalone story, but it has not infected my imagination as other Star Wars projects have. It looks fantastic, the production design is on point, and the plot was engaging. I’m not sure why it doesn’t have the wow factor I was expecting when it was first announced. I enjoy it, it is a good show, but it is not one of the best. A fun jaunt through the underbelly of the universe. I would recommend it to a Star Wars fan, but I don’t think I will be rewatching it anytime soon.
