Welcome back to Feats N’ Faults, where we use our Tiered Point System to rank and record our favorite characters based on their achievements and deeds. For a more in depth look on how points are awarded, please check the About page. Below is our Tier System for quick reference.
In this feed we are back to Red vs Blue to follow all our favorite Freelancers. It is another long one, so buckle in and get ready to read a lot of State names. For those of you who are fans of RVB, you will know that there are some badass characters on this list. The placement of some may shock you. Their intimidation factors may not have been enough to earn them sufficient FN’F Score. For those who wish to play at home, go ahead and grab those scorecards. List who you think scored from least to greatest, and let me know what your lists look like in the comments! I would love to see them. Our Freelancers are the Counselor, The Director, Carolina, Tex, Agent Florida/Captain Flowers, North Dakota, South Dakota, York, Maine/Meta, CT, Wyoming, Four Seven Niner, and Washington. Good luck ranking, and don’t forget to share!
Let's Get Started!
Last Place, CT: -1 FN’F Score
In last place, we have the only character who scored in the negatives, CT. Poor Connecticut. She never got what she wanted. She was one of the only freelancers who woke up and realized they were the bad guys. She never made it out. She tried, but she could not score any points. Even when she finally escaped the freelancers, she killed two of the rebels that she was going to join. It might have led to a shocking reveal, but she still Murdered. Her. Own. Men! After that, she never did anything of note except die. Interesting character, but not a great showing for Feats N’ Faults.
12th Place, The Director: 4 FN’F Score
Some of you might be typing right now, “Hey Shane, you cropped this guy’s head off on his title card!” But I didn’t. I guess you just never watched the series. If you know, you know.
The Director is near the bottom of our list, but I’m not surprised. He didn’t do all that much. He was in charge, but our other characters were the ones who actually accomplished tasks. The only thing that surprised me was that the Counselor somehow scored higher than him. I guess that’s because he destroyed all of Florida, but we’ll get to that later.
The Director was just a tortured man who wanted to get his wife back. Never being able to pull her in and just having fragments of her. This is ironic because he ends up creating fragments of himself in order to try and get her back. It is a long-convoluted story but boy is it one hell of a ride.
11th Place, Agent Florida: 4 FN’F Score
Florida is awesome. The reveal and realization that he is Captain Flowers is even better! It is one of my favorite moments in the series. I have no idea if this was planned ahead of time. All I know is it was executed perfectly. Florida was able to score a 4 FN’F Score. It is not great, but the guy did die of an Aspirin allergy.
10th Place, South Dakota: 6 FN’F Score
I love the twins. South is my least favorite of the two, but you need both to make them stand out. South is reckless. A hot temper wrapped up in an inferiority complex. She is good, but everyone around her seems to be better. It would be like a star high school basketball player suddenly joining college. Yes, they may have been the best in their town, but now they are surrounded by the best in the state. It can break a lesser woman. Not South. She may be cocky and quick to anger, but those emotions don’t stop her from getting shit done. It is just too bad she couldn’t have scored higher.
9th Place, Four Seven Niner: 6 FN’F Score
I bet you were surprised to see I was covering her! A delightful side character she might be, but she did so well that I had to go back and track her. She was just a pilot but scored better than the Director and a few agents. They should have promoted her to Freelancer with all the other badass women. There are just so many powerful women in this series. I bet Roosterteeth was trying to compensate for all the dick jokes.
8th Place, Counselor: 7 FN’F Score
The Counselor was always a side character. Never scoring many feats until we reach the Chorus Saga. There he gets some breathing room and starts to shine. We see why the Director kept him around. It still wasn’t enough to score higher than most of the Freelancers. The main takeaway is that you never want this guy on your team. He always loses and will be the first to turn on you or hightail it out of there.
7th Place, Wyoming: 8 FN’F Score
He wins the award for best mustache. That’s a given! Just look at that majestic thing. It’s like Same Elliott and Tom Sulek had a beautiful love child. Did he score high? Nah, but I’ll give him a pass. He won in my heart.
6th Place, York: 11 FN’F Score
Listen, I know I already said it, and I will most definitely repeat it, but York is one of my favorite Freelancers. I love this guy. He has a quick wit, but he is also calm and gentle. Not many characters have that combo. The funny guys are normally chaotic and obnoxious. However, York is one of the most calm and gentle presences on the team. Always there to support and hack into systems. York is one of the only team players in Freelancer. It’s too bad that is what got him killed.
5th Place, North Dakota: 12 FN’F Score
North is the Big brother of the group. Both literally and figuratively. This team may not have a healer, but North is the closest thing to it. Most of his feats are saving his teammates. He has a heart of gold and would sacrifice himself in a heartbeat to protect those close to him. This nature made him perfect to be paired with his AI. North is one of my favorite freelancers. I know I said it before, but seriously, there are a lot of fantastic characters in this series.
4th Place, The Meta: 22 FN’F Score
The Meta. The nightmare of every Red and Blue. He craved power, but it was not entirely his fall. He was corrupted by the AI Sigma and was implanted with two AIs. This procedure was never done before, and the combination overwhelmed him. It changed him into an ever-craving weapon. One that only had one desire. To acquire the rest of the AI. The Alpha wanted to be created and was the only one who could do it. He came close too. He just was never able to complete his aims. Still, he managed to avoid a single fault, which is huge for this series. Even with this, his score still underwhelmed me. He had such a presence in the show. Intimidating, powerful, and he was not afraid to use it. I’m not sure what went wrong. He almost reached the top three, but he fell short of his goals just like in the show.
3rd Place, Washington: 25 FN’F Score
Welcome to the Top 3! It should not surprise anyone that Wash made it this far. He has some of the most screen time out of all the Freelancers. Starting off as a villain, he eventually found himself leading the Reds and Blues. He trained Tucker and helped him realize his true potential. His score is not anything to write home about. He might not be the bravest or the best shot. Yet, he is a pivotal character during most of the series.
2nd Place, Carolina: 34 FN’F Score
She just couldn’t do it. Carolina was never able to beat her mother. It did not matter if it was in a fight, for her father’s respect, or in Feats N’ Faults. She always trailed behind. That doesn’t diminish her feats though! She is the first Freelancer to get a truly respectable score. Just like with Wash, Carolina somehow got involved with the Reds and Blues. Joining them in their fight on many occasions. She started off super rough, but as the series went on, she began to mellow out. She had the most character development out of anyone. It was a difficult journey for her, but she found her peace in the end.
1st Place, Tex: 62 FN’F Score
Anyone who knows the show knows that Texas deserves to be here. I do not think she is in as many episodes as Carolina, but she is the first Freelancer we see. She introduces us to the rougher side of Red vs Blue. It was all inept simulation soldiers before she came to the gulch. She showed us what a trained professional could do in this universe. It opened up a whole new world of storytelling and led us down the corrupt past that created the Reds and the Blues.
Texas turned out to just be a memory. She lived on and continued to change the universe because of how strong that memory was. I think Red vs Blue will have the same effect. It was a trailblazer back in the day. While it may be gone, Roosterteeth shut down. RVB will continue to have an impact. Inspiring creators to chase their dreams, nostalgic memories of the good old days, and making new generations laugh. I am so happy that Tex was eventually reunited with Epsilon and that they finally found their peace. The winner is Agent Texas.
Thanks for tuning into this week’s feed! Red vs Blue might not be as big of a property as Marvel or Star Wars, but I think anyone should give it a chance. It has a way of growing on you. The sincerity hiding behind the jokes sticks with you. It is worth the ride.
I will see you all next Thursday for another Feats N’ Faults. Until then do not forget to subscribe and tell a friend to stay updated on all the latest scores. All the support is greatly appreciated.
Until Next Time!
