Welcome back to another round of Feats N’ Faults! Today we are taking a look at the Second Doctor and his companions. I wonder if they will do any better than the first era of Doctor Who? First let’s post a quick recap of how they can earn points. Posted below is a picture to show the tiers and how much each one is worth. If a character does an action that affects the amount of people, they will be rewarded the corresponding points. If you are playing at home and read my review of the Troughton eram, get out your papers now. Let’s list who you think will score the most. List your characters from least to greatest and see how close you can get! For a quick look we are ranking the following characters. Ben, Polly, The Second Doctor, Jamie, Zoe, and Victoria. Get your guesses in now because away we go!
The 2nd Doctor’s Companions:
On the bottom of our list we have our scream queen Victoria. While I do not think Victoria would score too much higher. I do think she was another victim of missing episodes. Once we get out of this era we will not have to worry about this as much but until then it is just an unfortunate case for these characters. As they animate episodes I will do a recap and adjust these scores when needed, but until then she is stuck with just a FN’F score of 2.
In fourth place we have Polly! Polly is another victim of some lost episodes but I love some of the feats she was able to acquire. Beating a Cyberman with nail polish! Come on that is just classic! I wanna see anyone from current who try something like that, I dare them!
In third place we have Zoe. By far the smartest companion during this era. Receiving few faults she was able to hold on to her feat points and score a respectable score of 13. Using her smarts to outwit the Doctor and save half a planet is pretty good for a young librarian.
Now we have out top two. I was pretty surprised with the outcome of this. While it was still a pretty close score Ben was able to beat out Jamie for the top spot! Even though Jamie traveled with the second Doctor longer he was not able to catch up to Ben. Ben had a couple of impressive feats that Jamie was not able to compete with. While Jamie did achieve more feats, it was the quality of Ben’s feats that put him on top. So our winner for the companions is Ben!
As you can see Ben was able to save half of a planet and an entire colony. The bruiser Jamie was not able to take out enough guys to catch up with those impressive feats. Plus Ben only received one fault while Jamie had to deal with a -3 score. If faults were not in play these two would have tied but that is just not how this game is played. Congratulations Ben!
So how did you do? Were you able to guess who our top companions would be. Did you get anyone in the right place? Here is our list of companions and where they stand.
Ben Jackson 23 pts.
Jamie McCrimmon 21 pts.
Zoe Heriot 13 pts.
Polly Wright 5 pts.
Victoria Waterfield 2 pts.
What I find impressive is that no one scored negative points this time around. That us a good sign for the second Doctor. Let us see how he stacked up.
The Second Doctor: Patrick Troughton
This Doctor had a lot going for him. A lot of fun Sci-Fi adventures full of danger and high stakes. This all proved as an asset for the Second as he started earning a high number of feat points. Even with his missing episodes he was able to score a very impressive feat score of 234! That is the highest Feat score we have seen so far! I guess being our first character to save the entire universe has its benefits. Plus saving the earth and defeating many foes added up to a spectacular showing. That with receiving a lower faults score than his predecessor also helped him to maintain his impressive lead. The second Doctor is not someone who should be taken lightly, even if he does seem a little mad.
Troughton was a fantastic Doctor. He brought a new kind of energy to the show that can still be felt. He cemented a lot of Doctor tropes that are still used to this day. His characterization of the Doctor is what made the Doctor a mad scientist hero. We have a lot to thank Troughton for and he more than earned his FN’F score of 229! He is currently our highest scoring character but how will he shape up next to our first Doctor without any missing episodes? Will the 3rd’s companions be able to beat our Ben or maybe even Ian? Tune in next week as we review the Third Doctors era and in two weeks we will look at the FN’F score of Pertwee and his companions. Do not forget to subscribe and tell anyone else who might be interested in seeing how their favorite characters stack up to each other. Until Next Time!
