Welcome back to Feats N’ Faults where we use our Tiered Point System to rank and record our favorite characters. If you want a rundown on how points are awarded, please check out the About page. Below is our Tier System for reference.
We are going to be covering the 12th Doctor’s era. The best era, in my opinion. I love the way Capaldi plays the Doctor. You can feel how honored he is to play the role. He has so much fun with it; watching it is an absolute joy. But that is enough gushing over Capaldi. Let’s get started. If you are playing at home go ahead and rank Bill, Nardole, Clara, Kate Stewart, and the 12th Doctor. Let’s see how you did, shall we?
The Companions:
Unfortunately, coming in at Last Place, we have Bill. Bill was a fantastic companion, but her time on the show was just too short for her to shine. It also does not help that she gave up the entire planet just so the Doctor could see. He could have just regenerated and got his sight back, but no, Bill just had to ransom the entire planet for him. It goes to show just how much she cares about the Doc, but it did not help her FN’F Score.
This era is just full of favorites. In 3rd Place, we have my favorite companion, Nardole. Unfortunately, he is another short-lived character, but he leaves an impression! He is always getting into adventures off-screen and is the one who tries to keep the Doctor in check. His score is slightly lower than I would have hoped, but he is still one of my favorites.
In 2nd Place we have everyone’s 2nd favorite leader of UNIT, Kate Stewart. After her father passed away someone had to take control. Who better than his daughter? Even in Doctor Who we have a Nepo Baby. However, Kate has earned her title on multiple occasions. She even saved the planet on one of her adventures. She earned her 25 FN’F Score.
In 1st Place we have Clara Oswald. Now, this might come as a shock to most of you. I absolutely hate Clara. She is my least favorite companion. She just brings out the worst in the Doctor. The Master paired these two together for a reason. With that in mind, she still killed it with her FN’F Score. Saving the universe really does help your score. She did not quite catch up to Donna Noble but gave it her best effort. Even with her pettiness and Controlling nature, she only got a deduction of 18. That is pretty surprising, considering who she is and how long she was on the show. Even though I hate to say it, well done, Clara. Well done.
The 12th Doctor:
The 12th Doctor had a great showing in FN’F. A 341 is not the highest we’ve seen an iteration of the Doctor score. It is still an amazing score. Again, just a piece of The Doctor’s life scores more than most characters we have seen so far. Next week, when we cover the 13th, we finally get to see The Doctor’s total. My favorite feat with this Doc might not have earned him a ton of points. However, beating Robin Hood with a spoon was the moment I fell in love with this guy.
Review: 8/10
These seasons are great. Even though I think this is the best Doctor, some episodes fall a little short for me. I do not think there is a bad episode in any of his seasons, but they do not all hit hard enough for me to give him a perfect 10/10. I would implore anyone to watch this series. If you need a jumping-on point, “Thin Ice” is a perfect episode to introduce anyone to Doctor Who. As soon as you start watching, Capaldi’s charm will captivate you. The energy he brings to the role is unparalleled. He is more complicated than most of the other iterations. He can have fun in one second and then feel the entire weight of his history in another. He has a couple of fantastic speeches in there too. Please, please, please, give this Doctor a shot! You will not regret it. My three recommendations for this era would be:
Listen
Twice Upon a Time
Thin Ice
