Welcome to the final episode of The Force of July! With the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu, we have been able to do a deep dive into the galaxy far, far away. We are ending our celebration with a bang and analyzing one of the best planned and lore-building shows of the series. That is right, we are covering the animated classic Star Wars Rebels. So much lore has erupted from this series that we are still seeing these characters to this day. Every one of the animated characters we are covering today has a live-action counterpart, except for one. And some might argue he does as well, since he was an easter egg in a picture of the dash of the Ghost. But that is enough conjecture; we are covering the crew of the Ghost: Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Sabine Wren, Zeb Orrelios, Hera Syndulla, and everyone’s favorite murderous droid, C1-10P, AKA Chopper.
We could not have a Star Wars celebration without Jeff K , so get that Ewok music playing and buckle in as we discuss Star Wars Rebels. 6th Place, Chopper: 80 FN’F Score (2014-2023) 79 ep. 1 Movie
I was expecting Chopper to break the 100 barrier, but it is hard to live up to the standard that R2-D2 set during his tenure. Still, this murderous little droid was the heart and maniacal laughter of the group. Plus, out of all the droids in the series, he has, without a doubt, taken out the most storm troopers. I mean, seriously, look at his top feat: this droid beat an Inquisitor! How embarrassing.
Unfortunately, that wild-card energy carries over and becomes the focus of his own team, which causes Chopper to earn five faults by attacking or distracting his own crew. Still, an 80-point start to our tier list has to be the highest last-place score we have ever done. To put him into perspective, Chopper here has scored higher than Black Widow from the MCU and his fellow Star Wars character Han Solo! This lil droid beat an OG, and we are just starting this list! How disrespectful!
5th Place, Hera Syndulla: 94 FN’F Score (2014-2023) 81 ep.
Hera is the matriarch of the group. While they all contribute, if I had to pick one to be the leader, it would be Hera. She is the pilot of the Ghost and is not afraid to showcase her skills. She has out-piloted and gunned down many TIE fighters and fleets of combatants. She was even able to escape Darth Vader, who is known as one of the best pilots in the entire galaxy. While her live-action counterpart did not see a lot of action, she shines in the animated series.
I don’t know what it is, but I love seeing a Twi’lek in action. I think it is because of the stigma that surrounds the race from the original series. Being seen as a commodity to be used and traded really gets under my skin, which is why I love characters like Hera and Devon, as they take that stereotype and smash it over their knee. You’re never going to slow Hera down, especially since she has a son to care for now. Momma’s gonna get ya.
4th Place, Zeb Orrelios: 97 FN’F Score (2014-2026) 64 ep. 1 Movie
Zeb is one of my favorite characters in all of Star Wars. I need to sit down and do a tier list on that sometime. If you want Jeff K and I to sit down and rank our top ten characters, let us know in the comments!
Zeb is one of the last of his species, known as the Lasat. The Lasat is my favorite species in the universe. I’m sorry to all you Poobian fans out there, but Lasats kick but. They are strong, agile, and have a kick-ass silhouette. Even the color of their fur and facial hair is peak design. This design and voice acting are what draw me to Zeb, but it is his characterization and heart of gold that make me love the character even more.
To showcase just how influential Zeb is, he was once stranded on an ice planet. With him was an Imperial officer who gave the order to wipe out most of the Lasat race! Zeb is not a fan of this man, but they work together to survive, and he saves his life. After this ordeal, the Imperial turned and became the new foe that betrayed Thrawn! This one Lasat put aside the genocide that he faced and redeemed the perpetrator. While he may be the strongest brawler on the team with decent flying skills, it is this feat that stands out to me the most.
3rd Place, Kanan Jarrus: 118 FN’F Score (2014-2022) 66 ep.
Surprise, surprise, the three force-sensitive characters make up the top 3. Their placement might surprise you, but Kanan is in third place for the team. Kanan is the Jedi who survived Order 66, which we were able to see at the beginning of The Bad Batch. Here, Master sacrificed herself so that he could flee, and then we find him grown up with a brand new name and married to a rebel pilot.
What I love about Kanan is that he is not the generic Master in the series. He is not faultless and does not have all the answers. Instead, he learns and grows along with Ezra as they navigate the world they are in and develop their own identity with the Force. Kanan also receives one of the only permanent battle wounds that I can remember in Star Wars. Sure, people get their hands cut off, but then they get robot ones, and it does not matter. I guess there are no robot eyes in this universe because Kanan was blinded by Darth Maul and carried those scars until the moment he died. Oops, did I forget to mention that? Well, I did warn you about spoilers. Yes, Kanan sacrificed himself to stop an explosion and save his pregnant wife and rebel family. No end could be more honorable. Kanan learned from his Master, the Bendu, Yoda, and his own experiences and turned into one of the best Jedi in all of Star Wars. Will we ever see him again? I doubt it, and in reality I don’t want to. His story is tragic but should be left alone. It would spoil his memory to dig up that grave.
2nd Place, Ezra Bridger: 125 FN’F Score (2014-2023) 73 ep.
Ezra Bridger, the main character of the series, comes in second place. You do not see that happen very often, but he had a little less screen time than the first-place character and scored the highest number of faults out of the crew. He was a little thief before joining, but most of his faults come from his lack of forethought. The man shot Rex; I’m surprised he’s even alive after doing that. However, Ezra is not a failure by any means. He broke the one hundred barrier with ease and had some of the most growth out of any Jedi. I would put him in the same category as Kanan, Darth Maul, and Kenobi. All of these characters have had different versions of themselves and grew throughout the series. Ezra is the exact same. He started off as a little boy, grew up, and then changed his philosophy. One aspect I wish he didn’t change was the first lightsaber he built. He was the first Jedi smart enough to add a blaster to the hilt! What a great idea that is extremely versatile. Unfortunately, he got a second saber that removed this device, and now he does not use a saber at all. So while his character has been evolving, his lightsaber has completely devolved. Hey, to each his own, I guess.
1st Place, Sabine Wren: 137 FN’F Score (2014-2023) 76 ep.
In first place we have the artistic Mandalorian herself, Sabine Wren. Sabine has had somewhat of a renaissance lately. When Rebels ended, I did not imagine her character getting the focus she has, to the point that she has become Ahsoka’s apprentice. It even surprises me that Ahsoka began training her after her past with the Force and the Jedi in general. It was this time in Ahsoka that put Sabine ahead of Ezra. She had more focus and more things to do, which allowed her to outscore her fellow crew member.
This young girl, who started her rebellion by tagging Imperial vehicles and buildings, grew up to have a pivotal role in the rebellion and liberation of Lothal, earned the Dark Saber, became ruler of Mandalor, and is one of the few who have traveled outside the galaxy. When you look at everything she has done and accomplished, you begin to respect her score and why she has managed to claw her way up to first place. To put her score into perspective, as of now, only five other Star Wars characters have been able to outscore her. She has also scored higher than the Paladin of the Black Lion Keith from Voltron Legendary Defender and the Hulk from the MCU.
