The Visuals:

I still can’t get over how good this movie looked. I was taken out of the movie because my brain said, “Hey, this is basically an animated movie, right?” It is insane how far we have come with CGI and motion capture. I by no means am an expert on the subject. However, there is a scene where water comes flooding into a building. The water looked so realistic and flowed with such fluidity. Just 10 years ago, it would have been an insane task to render that! You never second-guess if you are looking at an Ape. It is impressive. The visual effects team deserves a lot of credit and a raise for this film. The actors also did a great job. I’m sure working in those black suits with balls all over them is not easy. Stuck in a blue void in some hangar somewhere. Even a pro like Ian McKellen broke down while filming the Lord of the Rings. So, the actors deserve some credit, too. I even heard rumbling about a non-CGI edition where they would leave the actors as they were before they were replaced with the CGI apes. I don’t know if that will ever happen, but it will definitely get me to buy a special edition Blu-ray. That would look hilarious!
