First Thoughts:
Anyone who knows me knows that Ghostbusters (1984) is my favorite movie of all time. It was a very interesting premise that was full of imagination and creativity. But the best part is that was not the entire point of the movie. It was just the backdrop. The best part was the writing and interactions between Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. Plus, they were backed up by Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis! It was just chaos with everyone trying to make a different kind of movie. Amazingly, they were able to create something coherent and more importantly funny. I could go on and on about the first movie, which I might do one day, but today’s review is about Frozen Empire.
When it comes down to it Ghostbusters should have four things.
Be funny but dry and sarcastic.
The threats should be real and taken seriously. The ghosts should be scary.
The Ghostbusters should be schluby, believable, and treated like exterminators.
The characters and their interactions should always come before the tech and the backdrop.
With these things in mind let’s take a look at Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Was it funny?
